About this deal

It took me a little to convince myself to add it to my tbr, because, let's be honest, the current one doesn't do it justice and it almost made me wanna pull a Kaz Brekker on my own eyeballs. I didn’t like the multiple POVs. Although I can see them being useful, they felt randomly placed. I would have rather had dual POV for Arianna and Rion. Was there an editor involved in this? Because there are full paragraphs that should've been deleted. From multi-award-winning author J.E. Reed comes a breathtaking new series full of love and survival. She’ll have to make a choice. Kill the most feared male on the continent or stay and let a forbidden bond take root. But what will happen when he discovers her secret?

I absolutely loved the worldbuilding and magic in this. The descriptions of how the magic worked and wound itself around the characters and how they used it were incredibly unique for a take on elemental magic and beautifully written. Rion also has great character development. He learns how to repent and accept the pain he has inflicted. He believes he is a monster and lives his life to that standard. Later, with Arianna’s help, he sees that he wasn’t born a monster but rather his actions made him that. He makes amends with the many people he has hurt and sets off to be a better person. The sun illuminated the area enough for her to witness the exhilaration on Rion’s face and the Fairy Folk that played at their feet. But please, I'm begging whoever is in charge of this stuff: give this book the pretty cover it deserves.I appreciated the choice the author made, because it's in line with his troubled past that eventually resulted in him hating being touched. The female main character also overthinks everything to the point where half the writing in a chapter is her worrying written down. Welcome to the tour for the bestselling novel The Divine and the Cursed by J.E. Reed! Read on for more! This book has everything you want in a Romantasy. And even tho this book is not spicy there is a bit of steam because of the description towards the attraction they have for each other. The beginning of this book starts off as a love triangle but that’s because relationships are allowed if you have not yet found your mate. Clearly she found her mate and she turned feral to protect him from anyone who would hurt him. She protects him and he protects her. First of all, I just want to say a grateful thank you to the author for sending me a free copy of this audiobook, I enjoyed most of it a lot! But there were a few things I have to be honest about 💗

There were some grammar errors. Although minor, they were frequent enough that this could be a turn off for other readers.Furthermore, I couldn’t connect with the characters, mainly because I didn’t know much about them. We know Arianna is a secret queen on the run, and Rion is the commander of an army, but that’s all we know about them personally. I think forming connections to them and their pasts as individuals would pull me in closer, deepening the readers love for them as people. She'll have to make a choice. Kill the most feared male on the continent or stay and let a forbidden bond take root. But what will happen when he discovers her secret? The spice is not explicit and it’s definitely a slow burn! So keep that in mind! I did love the use of “touch her and die” and the protectiveness of the MMC. Regarding the "spice" level, I don't require all of my books, especially fantasy reads, to be "spicy," but there are certain assumptions one comes with when there's an age-gap, enemies-to-lovers, fantasy captive romance. That said, even though I abhor a closed-door romance, an intentionally light "spice" level doesn't inherently take away from the story unless there's also a "light" amount of sexual tension and chemistry in the characters... which was unfortunately my experience with this story, especially because they fell soooo fast.
