About this deal

Option for freedom: Expanded sweet spot allows for exceptional acoustics from anywhere in the room. Clean, effortless bass is produced by Power Port 2.0, complementing the dual 8" woofers while reducing turbulence and port noise. The meticulously-crafted cabinetry ensures optimal internal resonance control and broadened sound dispersion for the ultimate sound stage. Genuine Audiophiles, Not Salesmen: We aren’t just in this for sales. We're in it for the love of sound, and to enhance your auditory experiences. The Pinnacle Ring Radiator Tweeter’s distinctive pointed shape guides the dispersion of high frequency sounds around a room. This innovation widens the sweet spot and allows you freedom to enjoy your music and movies wherever you choose to sit. TURBINE CONE WOOFER Our pioneering turbine design delivers a significant increase in cone rigidity without increasing mass. This innovation means the woofer can move with increased accuracy and speed to deliver enhanced sound resolution, enabling you to experience a breathtaking level of detail in your music and movies. POWER PORT 2.0

Polk’s new Power Port 2.0 is the latest version of our successful Power Port technology. In addition to Power Port’s carefully engineered port design that smooths the flow of air as it exits the cabinet through the port, X-Port adds a set of closed-pipe absorbers that are specifically tuned to unwanted cabinet and port resonances. Together, these two technologies combine to function as Power Port 2.0 to deliver smooth, detailed audio. Combined with dual 8” woofers, you’ll get louder, cleaner bass while minimising turbulence and port noise. EXCEPTIONAL CABINETRY Personal Touch: Our commitment is to craft an audio experience tailored to you. Forget one-size-fits-all. The ‘turbine cone’ drivers are so called for the asymmetric bumps which the injection-molding process has added to the foam-core polypropylene cones, with this ‘turbine’ geometry claimed to minimise resonances around 5.5-6kHz which would occur in a smoother cone equivalent, thereby hampering a true pistonic motion, while the turbine bumps and a suitably impedance-matched surround avoid this, dramatically increasing stiffness and damping but without adding mass to the cone itself. The Polk Reserve R700 floorstanders deliver a bold sound, performing equally well with both 2 channel stereo and home cinema surround sound setups. A one inch Pinnacle dome tweeter provides crisp highs for detail, while the 6.5 inch Polk Turbine cone delivers clarity in the all-important midrange. The turbine cone combines a foam core with moulded turbine geometry to dramatically improve stiffness and damping, without adding extra weight. The Turbine cone lets you experience a smooth and detailed midrange and bass.

The biggest and most annoying resonance of a floorstander is between the foot and the top plate,” Polk tells us. “Depending on the height of the cabinet this is usually between 150 and 200Hz. Our CRC construction clearly eliminates the resonance peak of the cabinet – the result is uncoloured bass and midrange.” I’m sure by now you’re all wondering how these speakers perform. Immediately after pressing play on some of my favorite demos, it’s clear how remarkable they really are. The R700 excels at just about everything you can throw at it.

we thought were easily the best speakers that Polk had made to date. However, it wasn’t all that surprising that we found them to be On top of the cone of the waveguide we build a ‘hollow pole’ with an opening that is halfway into the port, and tuning of this pipe is done to multiples of tuning of the port frequency,” says Polk. The effect is significant, notably reducing a large 14dB resonance peak occurring at 700Hz. Awarded Excellence: 🏆 Honored as Australia’s Hi-Fi Retailer of the Year in 2021 and 2022, and hailed as Queensland’s Best Hi-Fi Retailer. Not just accolades, but a testament to our dedication. Do I wonder if say the L600 sounds better than the r700? Yeah. But from my own at home comparisons I am sure it would be extremely minor.

Power Port 2.0 and compatibility

Unrivaled Sonic Performance: Striking audio clarity and authentic sound reproduction with two 8" woofers. Indeed turning them up was an increasing pleasure because they neither distorted under duress, nor crumbled under complexity. The midrange from the turbine cones merges impeccably with the tweeters’ output, and vocals are particularly strongly projected.

We aren’t satisfied with the status quo. We rigorously test products, delve deep into the details, ensuring you get nothing but the best. We're about quality, not just brand names. The innovative Pinnacle Ring Radiator Tweeter expands high-frequency sound dispersion, creating an immersive cinematic audio experience no matter where you sit. The Turbine Cone Woofer enhances cone rigidity for improved speed and accuracy, delivering an unprecedented level of detail. In the bookshelf models and the smaller floorstander of the Reserve range, Polk has applied the same principle to this torpedo-clutching new X-Port; this uses a set of closed-pipe absorbers tuned to the internal frequency of the cabinet, acting as an eigentone filter (the port itself is labelled ETF) to maintain the bass output while aiming to reduce traditional speaker distortions, clarifying the upper bass and midrange. Listening The harmonised vocals of The Finn Brothers were similarly spot-lit on Won’t Give In, presented three-dimensionally in the soundstage – Neil forward and low, Tim behind and higher. Also notable here was the pleasingly solid bass entry, with genuine bass depth to its fundamental G.

Customer reviews

Some people also don't pay attention to Polk's guidelines in setting up the l800s then complain they sound like normal speakers.. well lol, that happens when you don't follow directions. The Polk Audio R700 is a beefy, three-way tower speaker sporting a one-inch Pinnacle Ring Radiator tweeter, a six and a half inch Turbine Cone midrange and two, yes TWO, eight-inch bass drivers –much of which is carried over from Polk’s costlier Legend Series. The speaker’s four drivers and bottom-facing port combine for a reported frequency response of 38Hz to 38kHz, with a sensitivity of 88dB and a minimum impedance of 3.6 Ohms, meaning this large tower isn’t necessarily impossible to drive, though a competent amplifier will give you the best results.

We kept them on light duties for a week to warm them through while deciding on positioning, settling on solid stands toed in slightly to keep their pointy tweeters at ear height and directly at our ears. Further relieving resonance in the floorstanders is a new internal bracing Polk calls Column Resonance Control.Reserve’s sleek cabinetry hides a world of audio innovation. Cabinets are carefully cross-braced to best eliminate unwanted interior resonances. Rounded exterior corners help disperse sound broadly around the room with minimal diffraction, creating an open sound stage. OPTIONAL HEIGHT MODULE While their response remained uniform across a wide sweet spot, their considerable imaging abilities were clearly best enjoyed sitting dead centre to within a few centimetres, to perfectly equalise the treble from those ring radiators. As far as how each 'sounds', they are near identical in the fact they timbre match NEAR perfectly. Hell to me even the r200 vs l200 sound near the same with the L200 sounding a touch cleaner and sharper. More refined is best I can describe it. But not enough to make a timbre difference with mix matching in a setup. Keep in mind, these differences only popped out when I was doing very critical side by side testing and they are minor. Day to day use I have never noticed a timbre difference in my reserve and legend surround mix of speakers. All flows perfectly.
