About this deal

Macrodynamic punch is well reproduced, as sudden drops in bass or crescendos maintain their dramatic nature. The S12 Pro will be compared against some other mid-FI planars. Single DD, hybrids, and pure BA IEMs were excluded from the comparison as the different transducer types have their own pros and cons. Let’s start the PLANARy session to see which planar set is king! Vs. LETSHUOER S12

Tests were done with a Khadas Toneboard DAC -> Schiit Asgard 3 amp, E1DA 9038, Questyle M15, Colorfly CDA M1, Tempotec Sonata HD Pro (BHD firmware mod), smartphone, and Sony NW A-55 DAP (Walkman One mod) using FLAC and WAV files. In terms of quality, bass texturing is pillowy and sometimes can sound undefined, but bass speed is lightning fast and can cope with complex bass movements. There’s just a hint of mid-bass bleed, but thankfully the bass does not encroach much into the midrange. Midrange There is plenty of energy here and a touch of brilliance but only as much as is needed for giving a shining and luminous character to the sound never crossing the point to harshness and stridency. Which Planer Magnetic earphones deliver for you? Planar drivers are extremely capable drivers and there is currently an avalanche of Planar earphones on the market. I had the pleasure of listening to the S12, the original Letshouer planar earphones, lent to me by a kind friend. Good fun! Do the S12 Pros deliver? The LetShuoer S12 Pro shares the same shape with the original S12, which is a pretty compact monitor with a minimalistic industrial design. The monitor is made from a Five-Axis CNC machines Aluminum Alloy, which is a pretty lightweight & durable material. The monitor has a pretty smooth surface with a Blue (Space Blue) finish, which is a special color selection for the 6TH-Anniversary Deluxe Edition.

When using the foam eartips with this IEM, I personally find the sound much more accurate. The use of foam eartips doesn't significantly alter the signature, but it does eliminate the V-shaped sound prevalent when using the silicone tips. Foam tips tend to mitigate both bass and treble, resulting in a more balanced and natural sound. It's important to note, however, that the reduction in bass and treble is not drastic. The most noticeable change lies in the lows, as it's evident that the sub-bass is almost gone, but the highs remain present, maintaining their level of clarity and detail. Indeed, the Timeless were so successful that a sequel – the 7Hz x Crinacle: Salnotes Dioko– was released to build on their success.

Compared to their chief rival, the 7Hz Timeless may have slightly better resolution, but the S12 Pro have a more natural timbre, superior soundstage depth, and a better fit. Also, the S12 Pro are substantially cheaper, and I much prefer the S12 Pro. Overall, LETSHUOER again delivers a set that is competitive and a reliable product in the ever-expanding portable audio market that solidify its reputation and credibility as one of the best and a coveted audio companies out there.Lastly, in "Nessun dorma!" performed by Pavarotti, the Italian's voice is out of this world. There is particularly good harmony between him and the orchestra (choristers, violins, horns, trumpets, piano, etc.). As discussed in the introduction above, the original S12 pro are marginally different from the original S12 in these areas: A 2-pin connection is highlighted by this protruding section on the faceplate of the S12 Pro and is flush with the overall build. Then come the downsides. Planar timbre is noticeable throughout the treble region, characterized by a metallic “sheen” to cymbals and hi-hats. The emphasis between 5-8kHz can also add hints of sibilance.

All of the current gen “efficient” planar magnetic driver IEMs have a narrow soundstage, which is mostly true for the Z12. The aluminum housings are pretty minimalistic and feature a matte finish. Build quality is top-notch. The shells are fashioned from a five-axis CNC (computer numerical control) process, with a small L and R circle on the housings denoting the left and right sides respectively. A process that led to many successful ventures, like Meze, FiiO or even JDS Labs, all led by engineers in search of the “perfect sound”. And so, when Letshuoer asked us if we were keen to try their S12 Pro– an updated version of the S12, their magnetic planar IEM – I jumped in. The same goes for the IMR EDP and EDP Ace, again like the I3s, the EDPs have been overshadowed by the S12 Pros for me. The EDP Ace however, comes fairly close with its DD bass and the note decay probably aided by piezo, the Planar Magnetic driver, if not the design of the chamber. The highs are crisp and detailed without over extending. They have a nice amount of openness and balance.Great performance across the board. I was able to discern every single source with ease even through the busiest parts of some songs. Staging is also quite wide allowing for a more spacious feeling and a more immersive experience.
