About this deal

As she did with sex in her first novel, Insatiable, now Daisy Buchanan holds up a mirror to the changing way we work in the raw and relatable Careering . We are experiencing delays with deliveries to many countries, but in most cases local services have now resumed. This is a story about Imogen's long fight for her 'dream job' and the pressures women face getting there, especially in the media industry.

moving in a way that feels out of control*There's a fine line between on the right track and coming off the rails.

While it would’ve been nice to see these areas further developed, Buchanan is at her best poising those existential, quarter-life-crisis questions through a tongue-in-cheek, humorous tone. For me, one of the best elements of the book is portraying plural women with diverse dreams, experiences, and characteristics, showing how the corporate world can affect us at any given moment of our journey. Mix The Bold Type with Bridget Jones, make our main protagonist a good six years younger, and you’ll end up with something close to Careering.

All my life, I’ve worried I wasn’t pretty enough, that I wasn’t hot enough, that no men would want me. Some of the data that are collected include the number of visitors, their source, and the pages they visit anonymously.

After devoting the best part of her career to Panache magazine, Harri is gutted when she doesn’t get the Editor role she’s always dreamed of. A great exploration of relationships with ourselves, our families, our colleague's, our past and futures, our careers, our dreams, our voices. As someone far removed from corporate life in London I didn’t necessarily think I’d relate to this book. Will she wake up to the way she’s being exploited before her protege realises that not everything is copy?

The book was at times humorous and at times spilled in to Bridget Jones territory, I’m thinking the Gentleman interview. Her books include the novels Insatiable (long listed for the CWIP prize), Careering (as heard on BBC Sounds), Limelight, and Pity Party, coming in July 2024. From laughing out loud multiple times, to really feeling the points that she was making, I was thoroughly invested and enjoyed Careering from start to finish.Buchanan portrays women and their lives better than anyone and I came out the other side feeling thoroughly broken and yet somehow stronger than before. I laughed a lot at the way things were described and the thoughts that came to mind during Imogen’s chapters. Her books include the novels Insatiable (longlisted for the CWIP prize) , Careering (as heard on BBC Sounds) and Limelight, and the non-fiction titles How To Be A Grown Up and The Sisterhood.
