About this deal

This is made up of a number of interesting features, including three lochs and the extinct volcanic peak known today as Arthur’s Seat. One of my favourite photography locations though are the Salisbury Crags – a series of 150ft high basalt column cliffs, from where you can get an excellent view of the Edinburgh Skyline. This is an excellent spot for photography, especially at sunset and sunrise. I should also mention that the roads in Scotland are quite narrow, especially in the countryside. I’m a decent driver but did hit the curb in Scotland on a couple of occasions. One of these encounters even ended with a flat tire. There’s more in the way of grasses that edge some shoreline areas, making for alternative foreground interest – play around with varying shutter speeds to include some blur.

A hidden gem in the Rothiemurchus estate, and not too far from Aviemore, this large loch has a footpath that takes you all around it. Forchleyt I have being able to completed my photographic studies because in 2000 my family and I stuffed a big final looses. One thing I’ve somehow not written so far though is a detailed guide to the best photography locations in Edinburgh. This is a huge oversight, as Edinburgh is fantastically photogenic. With medieval city streets, handy overlook points and a superb skyline, it is a real treat to photograph. If you have time, explore the entire beach as well as the jetty for foreground interest. Late afternoon into evening can provide some warm light across the scene, and do try out long exposures with ND filters. 8. Sligachan Speaking of villages, if you make it to Circus Lane, you should definitely head a little further out of the city centre to Dean Village. This is a wonderfully picturesque oasis that sits in a valley formed by the “Water of Leith”, Edinburgh’s main river.Your first glimpse into this wild and amazing place will be Rannoch Moor and its many lochs. On a calm day, they reflect the landscape around them perfectly. This is a fast-main road so do take care, but there are many lay-bys to stop off in and make your way down to the waters’ edge. New is a relative term of course, given that this part of town was actually built in the 18th century. It was to here that the rich of Edinburgh moved, leaving the poor to the cramped and unsanitary conditions of the original medieval town centre. Single shutter and silent mode– It’s always a great starting point and, if the otter is comfortable and undisturbed, you can then think about going onto continuous mode – but be careful not to disturb them. Much as Scotland is breathtaking from the ground level, it is even more astonishing from above. With its wild raw nature and striking scenery, it is an unbeatable destination for drone photography. So if you have a drone, be sure to take it with you — you’ll use it a lot. Just one example of compositions that drone allows you to capture In terms of technical information, it all depends on the lighting conditions, type of shot you are after, and whether you’re using a wide-angle or telephoto lens. But here are a few general rules I use or think about when photographing otters:

And of course, don’t miss the opportunity to spend a couple of nights in Aberdeen itself. Although often overshadowed by Edinburgh, it’s a lovely city with tons of interesting things to see, try out, and photograph. Photography Tips for Scotland Last, but not least, please don’t take this as the definitive list of photography locations on the North Coast 500! One of the wonders of driving this road is making your own discoveries, and you’re going to come across so many beautiful locations, from castles to mountains to waterfalls and lochs! A good viewpoint to take in this majestic landscape is found by heading up the path which ascends behind the visitor centre. A relatively short, but steep, climb to around 100 metres in elevation will reveal a beautiful view of the monument and down the loch.Anyway, Circus Lane is a beautiful old cobbled street with old lampposts, creeping greenery and lovely houses, making for a perfect village scene, just ten minutes from the centre of Edinburgh. We also encourage you to find your own favourite alley or street in Edinburgh – there are lots to choose from! We have a guide to whisky distilleries on the North Coast 500 if you’re interested in visiting distilleries along the route. You will likely see a number of deer on your travels, but you can maximise your chances of getting a great shot in a few ways. First, getting up around sunrise will definitely help, as more wildlife will be out. I saw hundreds of deer when I was out and about at 4am for first light, and they seemed rather perplexed to see me, meaning I was able to get some great shots before they figured out they should probably be running away.
