About this deal

It is the case that when a dehumidifier is new to a home that it will run hard to dry the house out for the first few weeks. Once the house (and the material in the house) are dry, then use will settle down and decrease. Protect your dehumidifier against the cost and hassle of unexpected failure and give yourself some added peace of mind with one of our great value extended warranties! You can be assured that your dehumidifier will be covered against failure for the duration of your policy.

This is potentially quite a difficult question to answer because the performance will vary from day to day. For example, the MeacoDry Arete 20L uses 216 watts at a power consumption at 20°C and 60%rh. That’s 7p/hour based on 34p/kWh, and around 56p if you run it for 8 hours a day. Different season – different costsAs with all dehumidifiers, the 25L’s extraction rate varies depending on the temperature and humidity in the room but, to use an extreme example, at a rather stifling 30˚C and 80% humidity it will absorb 24.96 litres in a 24-hour period. That’s a lot of water extracted from seemingly nowhere. Don’t worry about it overflowing either since it will switch off when the float in the five-litre water tank hits the top.

It’s important to point out that the dehumidifier that the customer bought is a compressor dehumidifier. This is the type of dehumidifier that works best in warmer temperatures (of 10°C for our 20 and 25L and 15°C for our smaller units). They can be used in your bedroom or bathroom or any room in your home that isn’t too cold. We’ll talk about this a bit more below. We’ve concentrated on compressor models since they tend to be the most popular type of dehumidifier for the British climate. Yes – it’s an excellent dehumidifier, especially for larger spaces. I don’t have the MeacoDry ABC or Inventor EVA II Pro 20L to hand to make direct comparisons but the Arete One is right up there with them in terms of performance and is either competitive or slightly better on noise and power consumption. In night mode I still found noise levels too high to sleep with it running in the same room, but it was fine running in a room downstairs or in another room, with only a barely perceptible low hum crossing walls or floors. MeacoDry Arete One review: What could be improved?

Does a dehumidifier cost a lot to run?

A simple easy to use control panel – we made the most often used buttons larger and the least used buttons smaller What you don’t want to do is to increase the room air temperature in the basement in the summer because it will be warm enough and you don’t want to add a significant amount of heat to the air. Out of Ebac and Meaco, one earned the highest customer score out of the 13 brands and the other sits mid-table. You can read the first independent review yourself here, describing the huge advancements in dehumidifier efficiency and running costs, it was a 5 star review To find out more about the features to look for, see our guide on how to buy the best dehumidifier.
