I had to work hard to encourage our baby to focus on books and this was THE book that got him hooked. He loved the repeated and enthusiastic use of the word 'wow' and of course the owl. Subsequently his first word was 'owl'. This book was given to my daughter, who was 16 months at the time. I thought it might be too old for her but she brings it to me every day saying 'WOW'. She absolutely loves it. Wow! Said The Owl is a beautifully illustrated picture book which introduces young children to the colours that are around them in the natural world. Fascinatingly, he collects textures from unusual places – the clouds in Wow! Said the Owl have a pattern he scanned in from the inside of an envelope from his bank! What sort of creative mind comes up with that idea? Every time we read Wow! Said the Owl now – which is to say, several times a week – I’ll pay special attention to those patterned clouds and be reminded how a clever mind can see creative potential in the most mundane objects. Beautiful performance. My 2 year old was absolutely mesmerised. I'm so glad this gem was his first experience of the theatre.
