About this deal

Jane Fallon is the multi-award winning television producer behind such shows as This Life, Teachers and 20 Things to do Before You're 30. It was an easy read but just didn’t really have anything about it that gripped me or made me want to keep picking it up to read it. Her mum is going to be living in a village by herself after her best friend tells her she is moving out, so she invites her mum to the Thames for the weekend to show her how nice the place is, and hopefully look for some houses or flats where her mum could move to, being closer, Iris could visit her here.

Iris continues to try to get evidence from Lee, hears unexpected news from her sister, and repeatedly goes to where the couple live for weekends, but eventually she decides to give up on revealing things about Maddy and Lee online and focus on herself and her family. I hadn't read a Jane Fallon novel for a while (my favourite of her back catalogue is Getting Rid of Matthew) but Over Sharing reminded me just how great and funny an author she is. I got bored very early on and I pushed through only to get to the point where I was completely cringing at the FMC. On the negative: the wife blaming the other woman - come on now - it takes two and the cheating partner should cop at least as much flack! Some of the behaviour of the characters was so cruel, so unnecessary, and there wasn’t a happy ending really for any of them.

I maybe didn’t find this as funny as some of her previous books, but I did really enjoy it and both the main character’s did end up redeeming themselves at the end. My daughter was in night nappies when she started going to school and I WON'T apologise for it - no one. Writing women in their 40s and 50s was a reaction to so much fiction being about women in their 20s,’ she says. After waiting for them to come out, when they do seemingly all happy, back they go again where Lee drops the girls off with Maddy and has the door slammed behind him.

Iris, preparing to spy on her nemesis, has sandwiches from Sainsbury's, a bottle of water and a huge coffee from Starbucks. Heidi Klum reveals behind-the-scenes look of THAT Peacock Halloween costume (which took SIX HOURS to complete! Ageing is ever more fraught for women assailed by images of celebrities who are pushing 60 but don’t look a day over a very plastic 40. We find out the reason why Maddy and Lee are keeping up appearances to the outside world and Iris lined herself up to “bump” into Lee again, after which, he got very drunk and took her back to his flat and told her everything! I love all the characters and the themes of oversharing and social media:be careful what you ask for and what you say.

Arriving on the street where Maddy lives, first thing to do is find her house, which is quite easy since she spots a 4x4 with a sticker in the back displaying Twins on Board.

Book review: Over Sharing by Jane Fallon | Independent.ie

It’s no secret that Fallon and Gervais never wanted children, but like any child-free woman, she (not he) has been subject to the inevitable ‘Why don’t you have kids? I also found it really hard to be sympathetic towards Maddy who was an instagrammer, who used her children and husband to promote herself and various brands and propel herself to fame, without thinking about the consequences of what her actions would have for the family as a whole, she was pretty selfish.JLS fans go wild as boyband announces new tour dates for summer 2024: 'This just gave me goosebumps! MAFS UK viewers SHOCKED after Thomas and Roz engage in X-rated shenanigans during group dinner party: 'He's turned into Mr Grey! This is another wise and at times hilarious revenge story with compelling female characters, and an awful man of course! So anyway, to summarise, I found myself annoyed and frustrated by this book and the characters, and disappointed that I didn’t love it because I really wanted to. I'm a big fan of Fallon's twisty, sharp and emotionally intelligent novels, and I'm delighted to report this latest is just as compelling as the rest .
